For the sixth year in a row, the Small Enterprise Development Agency (Seda) will lead the 2015 Entrepreneurship Day in Ekurhuleni, the agency announced today.

Entrepreneurship Day, launched by Seda in 2009, is a national event hosted by a different province each year. Seda aims to leverage the event to showcase entrepreneurial successes in South Africa and hopes to encourage the younger generation to consider a career as entrepreneurs, says Colin Francis, Seda’s acting provincial manager in Gauteng.

The event comes a day after Seda opened a branch office in Ekurhuleni. Francis says while we see the need to encourage and nurture entrepreneurs, Seda must do more than offer words of motivation and encouragement. Seda must be available to assist as and when we are needed, in communities where small business owners operate, says Francis.

‘’Many businesses fail because of a poor foundation and lack of knowledge. Our people are very good at starting businesses but fail to sustain them, Seda wants to change this state of affairs,” says Francis.

Francis says Entrepreneurship Day will offer entrepreneurs an excellent opportunity to network with their peers and share experiences but more importantly receive crucial information regarding the challenges experienced in business.

This year, Entrepreneurship Day will take place at the Ekurhuleni City Hall. All entrepreneurs and potential entrepreneurs are invited.

The event is a key deliverable, in the Seda-Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality memorandum of understanding and is in line with Seda’s strategic objective to improve the competitiveness of small businesses. This is aligned to the Department of Small Business Development’s proactive strategy to champion entrepreneurship and take entrepreneurship to communities around the country.

Seda will showcase success stories from business owners that have received support in one form or another from the agency, says Francis.
