Eleven emerging ICT entrepreneurs supported by Seda through its incubation programme are showcasing services and products at the 3rd largest tech event in the world. The 37th GITEX Technology Week in Dubai which takes place from 8 to 13 October 2017.

Nine of the companies going to GITEX are black owned, three are women owned and all of these SMMEs are youth owned. One of the businesses is Karisani IT led by Portia Masimula who specialises in web and application development, software testing, project management and business analysis.

Another SMME is Seda Nelson Mandela ICT Incubator (SNII) based Tuse Applications a company which specializes in APP developments led by its co-founder Thulisile Volwana. Both SMMEs mentioned would be led by young women who are making strides in the male dominated ICT sector. Other SMMEs are Bran Systems, The CEO Hub, C2 Square Enterprises, Jorens Communication, Hawk Mobile/Alenti Technologies, Madlokovu Business, Insul Energy/Green Room, Innovo Networks and Skywalk Innovation.

These entrepreneurs will be sharing experiences and learning from their peers from across the globe. Some of objectives and expected outcomes of this initiative include:

• Expose our entrepreneurs to international competitors

• Source new suppliers, products, information and services

• Benchmark their products and services

• Learn the latest trends and technologies

• Network with major suppliers, professionals, peers and IT procurement providers

• Open doors for future contacts focused on sales

• Showcase South African products and services to the international markets

The 11 SMMEs were selected from five Seda supported ICT incubators which are Soft Start BTI in Gauteng; SmartXchange (Durban) and SmartXchange (Ugu/Portshepstone) in KwaZulu Natal, Seda Nelson Mandela ICT Incubator (SNII), (Port Elizabeth) Eastern Cape and Singatha ICT Incubator College, KwaZulu Natal.

Seda through the Department of Trade and Industry has secured a pavilion for 11 tech SMMEs. The Pavilion will expose these tech entrepreneurs to international markets. They will showcase products and services which range from Wireless Mesh Networking, IT system & Services, ICT Advisory to Web design to hosting and support to over 147000 attendees from 97 countries expected at this event. They will be joining 4473 other exhibitors expected in Dubai.
