In an effort to increase its reach in the country, especially among communities that haven’t had access to its services before, the Small Enterprise Development Agency (Seda) branch offices in Limpopo will embark on a community outreach campaign in the province from 19 – 23 October 2010. The theme for the campaign “Seda is here to help you... let’s talk business!”

Seda’s mandate is to develop and support small enterprises in South Africa to ensure their growth and sustainability. To this end, Seda provides information, counselling and business support services targeting, in particular, micro- and small enterprises (including cooperatives) from all sectors throughout the country. Assistance is also given to medium-sized enterprises and emerging entrepreneurs. All these activities are aimed at encouraging a culture of entrepreneurship in South Africa.

Seda CEO, Hlonela Lupuwana, says the outreach campaign forms part of government’s broader initiative to extend developmental services to places where there has been minimal reach.  “Central to our focus currently is ensuring equitable access for small enterprises to business support services.  This outreach campaign provides us with an opportunity to reach even further than we have before to promote a culture of entrepreneurship and render much needed services,” she explains.

The provincial manager for Seda Limpopo, Koenie Slabbert, says a number of outlying areas have been identified which will be targeted by the campaign over the week.  “At the end of this campaign, we want to make sure that everyone in the communities we visited knows about the services we provide and how to access them,” adds Slabbert.

The campaign further aims to provide communities with information on how to access Seda’s services at the various branches in Limpopo. Through the campaign, Seda also hopes to establish and entrench sustainable partnerships with local municipalities and other developmental organisations so that services to the communities can be delivered in a coordinated way.

The Limpopo outreach campaign will be taken to the following areas:
