The Small Enterprise Development Agency (Seda) would like to warn business people and the public at large of a scam about a false tender or bid invitation document using Seda’s logo circulating online. The scam is in the form of a chain e-mail bearing the address firstname.lastname@example.org and the fax number 0865956957 (probably a fax-to-email).
The document attached to the said e-mail purports to be an invitation by Seda to prospective bidders for a number of services such as security, uniforms, etc, and requires bidders to pay a non-refundable fee of R2 999, 00.
Please note that Seda has not opened any bidding process for any services stated in the said document. Further, please note that Seda is a public entity established by legislation as a non-profit organization responsible for small enterprise development and as such does not charge fees for tenders. For the record, Seda publicly advertises all tenders in the media to ensure transparency and fairness in the adjudication and awarding thereof.
Seda requests business people and the public not to respond to this invitation and not to pay the amount stated in the supposed invitation as this is a scam. Seda is taking the necessary action including reporting this scam to the relevant law-enforcement authorities such as the South African Police Service.
Should you have any information which may assist authorities to locate the criminals behind this scam please contact Seda’s Head of Legal and Corporate Governance unit Mr Puledi Shoba at email@example.com or 012 441 1000/1186
